"Soon after India’s independence, when ‘Namami’ was first published, it stirred an extraordinary response in the minds of readers across both India and East Pakistan—an honor that would be remarkable for any renowned author.

Through his writing, Jitesh Chandra Lahiri sought to bring revolutionary figures vividly to life. At that time, it had become a common practice to embellish historical events and characters with imaginative color in order to craft historical novels. Yet, until Namami, no narrative had been attempted that dealt directly with the events and action-driven personalities of the fiery revolutionary era.

Writings on that period had so far remained limited to history, biography, or memoir. In that sense, Namami holds undeniable value as a meaningful collection of historically grounded short stories. And beyond their historical worth, the literary merit of these stories is in no way lesser."
